⭐️ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for International Patients Visiting The Varicose Vein Clinic TOKYO
Welcome to The Varicose Vein Clinic TOKYO
We understand that traveling abroad for medical treatment can raise many questions.
This FAQ has been prepared to address common concerns and guide you through each step of your journey — from visa application and treatment procedures to accommodation and aftercare.
We hope it helps you feel more confident and informed before your visit.
🛂 [Visa & Entry Requirements]
Q1. What type of visa is required to receive treatment in Japan?
A1. Since varicose vein treatment at our clinic is outpatient-based and does not require hospitalization, a tourist visa is generally sufficient.
Q2. Can I receive treatment with a tourist visa?
A2. Yes. Most of our international patients visit us using a tourist visa.
Q3. What is the difference between a medical visa and a tourist visa?
A3. A medical visa is for treatments that require hospitalization or long-term stay. For same-day procedures like varicose vein treatment, a tourist visa is suitable.
Q4. What is needed to apply for a medical visa?
A4. Please consult your local Japanese embassy for the specific requirements.
Q5. Can someone else apply for the visa on my behalf?
A5. Yes. A family member, travel agency, or medical coordinator can apply on your behalf.
Q6. How long does it take to obtain a medical visa?
A6. It is quite difficult to obtain a medical visa individually, so we recommend visiting Japan with a tourist visa instead.
Q7. Are there any health checks or restrictions upon entry into Japan?
A7. Currently, there are no COVID-19 related restrictions, but we advise checking the latest entry requirements.
🏥 [Consultation & Treatment]
Q8. How long should I plan to stay in Japan?
A8. Most patients stay for 3–5 days for consultation, treatment, and follow-up. If you are concerned about post-operative care, staying about 10 days to attend a 1-week follow-up visit is recommended.
Q9. What is the process from consultation to surgery?
A9. We conduct an ultrasound during the first visit. If surgery is necessary, it can be performed as soon as the next day or within a few days.
Q10. Is same-day surgery available?
A10. Depending on the examination results and our schedule, same-day surgery may be possible.
Q11. Are there any side effects or pain?
A11. The procedure uses local anesthesia and is minimally invasive, so post-operative pain is mild. You can enjoy sightseeing the day after surgery.
Q12. Is it okay if I don’t speak Japanese?
A12. Yes. For languages other than English, we use a translation device. We’ve successfully communicated with all patients so far.
Q13. Do I need to bring my own interpreter?
A13. You are welcome to bring your own interpreter, but we can also arrange one for you if needed.
Q14. Do I need a referral letter from my doctor?
A14. It’s not required, but if you have past medical records, bringing them can help with a smoother consultation.
Q15. Is post-treatment follow-up available after returning home?
A15. Yes. We offer online follow-ups via video call.
Q16. Can I complete all procedures before coming to Japan?
A16. Yes. You can complete consultations, document submissions, and treatment reservations online.
💰 [Costs & Insurance]
Q17. How much does the treatment cost?
A17. Consultation is $350. Surgery (laser ablation) is $1,650 per leg. A detailed estimate will be provided in advance.
Q18. Do you accept credit cards?
A18. Yes. We accept Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, and others.
Q19. Can I use my travel insurance?
A19. Depending on your coverage, some costs may be reimbursed. Please check with your insurance provider in advance.
Q20. Is private insurance from overseas accepted?
