Introduction of Lower Limb Varicose Veins Images

Even though we say “lower limb varicose veins,” they come in many forms.

In this article, we will showcase various images of lower limb varicose veins.

You might find varicose veins similar to those on your own legs.

Saphenous Varicose Veins

First, let’s look at the typical lower limb varicose veins.

You can see twisted varicose veins in the shin and calf areas.

This patient experienced symptoms such as leg swelling, heaviness, and cramps.

Upon closer inspection, there is a red rash around the ankle, accompanied by itching.

This is one symptom of “stasis dermatitis” associated with lower limb varicose veins.

Extensive Stasis Dermatitis with Rash

This patient also suffered from persistent itching due to a rash and was referred to us by a dermatologist.

This is post-operative photo.

After the surgery, the rash and itching improved, but unfortunately, the pigmentation did not disappear.

Especially for female patients, it’s better to seek treatment before it gets to this stage.

Skin Ulcers

A patient who scratched their skin due to the itching associated with stasis dermatitis.

Varicose veins with stasis dermatitis make it difficult for scratches and injuries to heal, and sometimes they progress to skin ulcers, requiring surgery.

Lipodermatosclerosis

When stasis dermatitis progresses, chronic inflammation of the skin causes it to harden.

Patients may feel pain even at rest, and their symptoms can become quite severe.

It is a condition that is just a step away from skin ulcers, necessitating surgery, but even after surgery, the skin pain may persist for a long time.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are capillaries with a diameter of 0.1-1mm running just under the skin, in the layer called the dermis.

In English, they are called spider veins, and despite the name “vein,” they are also known as “telangiectasia.”

In many cases, they become prominent due to the influence of female hormones.

Therefore, women in their 20s to 30s, especially pregnant women, are prone to developing spider veins.

Branch Varicose Veins

Branch varicose veins arise from branches of the great saphenous vein or small saphenous vein.

If your varicose veins resemble these images, consider consulting a specialist.
